Xiaomi’s affordable brand, Redmi, has a reason to rejoice today-it has sold 30 million of its Note 8 series. This includes the Redmi Note 8 (and its sibling Redmi Note 8 T) and the Redmi Note 8 Pro models, and both devices have made the Top 10 smartphones sold in Q4 2019.
Lu Weibing, the general manager of Redmi, revealed the good news. He recalled that 1 million units had been sold in one month, the next one had sales of up to 5 million as the phone became global, the 10 million mark had been reached in a quarter of a year, and it took 5 months to hit an incredible 20 million.
The line-up was announced on August 29, with the Redmi Note 8 Pro officially becoming the first phone with a 64 MP camera, but not on sale until September. Since then, Xiaomi has been driving more than 120,000 units a day.
Numbers are likely to slow down in the near future, considering that the Redmi Note 9 lineup is already selling around the world, and time will tell whether the new family will manage to surpass its predecessor’s records.
